Clevenger Contractor's Inc. was established in 1982 in Bluffs, IL by Verlee Clevenger. She began the business by doing miscellaneous work that bigger contractors did not want to do. This work consisted of finish work for highway construction, installing guardrails, seeding, sodding, drainage, concrete work, shoulder stone, and fencing. All work was done by using only small tractors, seeding equipment, and an end loader. Over a 30 year span the company expanded with the help of a good, strong, work force and the Illinois Department of Transportation's Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.
Clevenger Contractor's, Inc. now operates with a larger fleet of equipment and has completed major construction projects throughout the state of Illinois. Some of these projects include specialty railing on the McKinley Bridge that connects northern St.Louis with Venice Illinois, 30,000+ feet of guardrail on I-57, and railing on several river bridges.
In 2007, Verlee's granddaughter, Misty Dahman joined the company with the hopes of continuing the expansion of the family business. After Verlee's retirement in 2014, Misty purchased and is now owner/operator of Clevenger Contractor's, Inc.
